Southern Cross was built in Perth, Western Australia and is made of aluminum, weighing 32 tones with a single 97' high mast. Southern Cross was built to the Americas Cup 12metre rule specification and is 68 feet in length.

If you are after an exciting sailing experience with a smaller group, then Southern Cross is perfect.

Southern Cross's conversion to an overnight charter vessel took 2 years and included new cockpits, new coach roof, new diesel engine and cabin fit out downstairs to make her into a comfortable yacht for overnight sailing charters. Southern Cross has single berths and three double berths. 

Southern Cross was Australia's 4th challenge for the America's Cup and the 1st aluminum 12 metre America's Cup Race Yacht in the world. Southern Cross beat the competing nations to win the right to challenge for the cup against the Americans.

Southern Cross provides 3 day 2 night sailing adventures in the Whitsundays. Each trip takes up to 14 guests on the adventure of a lifetime. Guests are welcome to assist sail Southern Cross, including hoisting and trimming sails, or taking the helm to steer her around the islands.

Racing History

Southern Cross was built for wind conditions of 10 - 18 knots, which is perfect sailing the Whitsunday Islands. 

When Southern Cross competed in the Americas Cup in Newport Rhode Island the races that year were in light conditions of less than 10 knots. 

Southern Cross was successful in defeating the French, Swedish and British challenging syndicates to make it to the final against the USA. 

What to Bring:

    Sunscreen, Hat, Camera, Swimwear and beach towel, Runners / Sandals, Change of clothes, jumper or jacket all in one soft carry bag.

Whats Inlcuded:

A typical sailing adventure, passengers will visit a number of locations within the Whitsunday Island Group.

Locations are chosen to maximise enjoyment of the trip, and almost always include areas such as the northern tip of Hook Island, normally offering the very best in snorkelling conditions , and Whitehaven Beach, one of the premier icons of the Whitsundays. When you're not sailing, you will have the opportunity to swim with the tropical fish and snorkel the fascination coral reefs.
