   Fraser Island Ferries and Barges

Various barge - ferry services are run from access points on the western and southern sides of the island.  Barges run from Urangan Boat Harbour, River Heads and also from Inskip Point on the Mainland, and Moon Point, Kingfisher Bay and Wanggoolba creek on the island itself.

Fraser Island Ferries - Queensland Australia

Access to Fraser Island is by plane, helicopter, barge, passenger launches, commercial tours and by private boats.  Air services depart from Hervey Bay, Rainbow Beach, Maryborough, Brisbane and Noosa.  There are three airstrips located on the island; Wanggoolba creek, Orchid Beach and also at Toby's Gap.  Any persons using the airstrips must obtain permission from the relevant owners on the Island.  Fast Cats Ferries also leave from Urangan Boat Harbour at regular intervals arriving at Kingfisher Bay Resort.  This service operates seven days a week.

Travels between River Heads ( just out of Hervey Bay ) and Wanggoolba Creek on Fraser Island.
Traveling time is approx 20 minutes.

Return cost - $110.00 per vehicle + 4 passengers, $6.00 per extra passenger

Vehicle entry permit
$30.80 ( valid for 28 days )
The Permit must be fixed to your windscreen prior to entry.



Camping Permit
$4.00 per person per night

If lodging at one of the commercial accommodation on Fraser Island, 
the camping permit does not apply.

Permits available from Parks and Wildlife Office at Rainbow Beach and River Heads.

Four wheel drive vehicles are required to negotiate the sandy environment of the island, both on the beach and on the inland tracks and trails.  Permits are required for all vehicles crossing temporarily and they must be fixed to the windscreen of the vehicle.  An authorised officer will check your permit on entry the Fraser Island National Park.
