“Orchid House” is a beautiful house on a beautiful island. It is set on a high, private, 3/4 acre block, with ocean views from it’s wide covered verandah.

“Orchid House” is an ideal base to explore Fraser Island by 4WD or on foot. Orchid Beach is a Residential Area in a National Park at sheltered Marloo Bay, in the peaceful north of Fraser.

You will not find crowds of day- trippers and buses. There is little danger from passing beach traffic.

35km of magnificent beach leads north to Sandy Cape, the lighthouse and the Wilderness Area. South are the famous areas of Waddy Point, Champagne Pools, Middle Rocks and Indian Head.

Champagne Pools, Ocean Lake, and the shallow beach lagoon, are perfect for children to swim. All are within 2 - 8km of Orchid Beach.

Go West to Wathumba Creek to catch mudcrabs, pump yabbies, or fish the estuary and western beach. Also west is Platypus Bay, where whales rest with their newborn calves on their migration south, during July to October each year.

Orchid Beach is popular for it’s quick access to all weather, prime fishing spots. When the wind blows out the fishing (and the campers) on the main eastern beach, there are always spots on the rocks, in the surf, in the western estuary, and on the western beach from where you can fish.

The area from Indian Heads to Sandy Cape is renowned for the variety and size of fish caught. The largest tailor are caught towards the Cape later in the season, in September - October.

You can launch your trailer boat from the lagoon to fish the pristine offshore reefs.

Walk, 5min to the beach for some of the best fishing on the east coast, 5km to the freshwater Ocean Lake, 2km to Waddy Point, or just relax and perhaps enjoy a book from our library.

Extras

The Orchid Beach shop/garage has a mechanic and sells fuel, gas, bait, ice, hot food and basic groceries, but not alcohol.

The fully automatic diesel generator and batteries give 24 hour lighting and refrigeration. 

Fraser Island and Orchid Beach are only accessable by 4 wheel drive vehicle, or by air. The Island's only roads are inland sand tracks and the eastern beach.

The eastern beach from Hook Point to Sandy Cape is the main highway for the island and driveable only on the hard sand below the high tide line.

Always travel on the beach as close as possible to low tide, and not more than 3 hours either side of low tide.
